The programme combines some of the most magnificent highlights of Libya with a wonderful journey through really wild desert into the heart of the Fezzan. There will be always plenty of opportunities for walking, during lunch breaks and from campsites. Your camp will be away from other people and mostly in pristine countryside. All meals are cooked for you and the evenings will be spent around campfires under a starry sky. Included in the itinerary are two days in the famous Acacus mountains containing some of the worlds best excamples of cave art, some dating back 12000 years, the picturesque Ubari lakes in the midst of high dunes, a days trip to Leptis Magna, a visit to Sabratha and charming Tripoli
Day 1
Arrive in Tripoli not later than 15.00. Welcome and evening flight to Sebha, in the heart of the Sahara. Dinner and night in hotel.
Day 2
Start by 4x4 wheel vehicles west direction Acacus passing several oasis and stop at points of interest on the way. Head towards southwest through the wadi Adjal and lunch break in the wild desert. Later afternoon arrive in Adad/Acacus. From now on you will be camping. All meals are cooked for you and evenings are spent around camp fires.
Day 3 to 4
Two magnificent days to drive and explore this breathtaking wilderness with its fantastic and bizarr rockformations and superb cavepaintings (Unesco World Culture Heritage). You will visit wadi Awees, Emenenagh, Imha, Tashwuinat and Tanshel. Tent.
Day 5
Drive east through the beautiful Wan Casa dunes to camp in the Murzuq Dunes the largest sand dune area in the world. Along the way you will pass the rockformation Tini Farfar and Tini Kammet where the film Lion of the Desert with Anthony Quinn as main actor was partly recorded. After a stop near the Abohawa passage to see some excellent rock engravings you head toward your camp in the Murzuq sand dunes. Tent.

Umm el Maa
Day 6
You cross a short section of sand, then a black stone desert to the eastern end of Wadi Matkandoush. You then trek through the wadi to where your vehicle is waiting for you with lunch. There will be plenty of time to explore the wadi and see many of the prehistoric animal carvings. After lunch drive to camp in the Murzuq sand dunes. Tent.
Day 7
Drive over to Germa, visit the local historical museum and the ruins of the former capital of the Garamants. The great ancient historian Herodotus (5th century BC) was already writing in his books about that great, combativable nomadic tribe. After lunch enter the Ubari sandsea
and camp near the lake Umm el Maa. Tent.
Day 8
See the picturesque and famous lakes Umm el Maa, Mafù and Gabroon in the midst of high dunes, one of the most superb highlights of Libya. There is time to swim. The dunes offer nice walks or maybe you decide just to relax. After lunch drive to Sebha. In Sebha time at leisure or to see a local farm with a variety of animals and crops an insight into what can be achieved in the desert given water. Evening meal, then fly back to Tripoli. Transfer to the hotel.
Day 9
Interesting drive along the Mediterranean coast to Leptis Magna, today Lebdha, the largest archaeological site of Northern Africa and place of birth of the famous Roman Emperor Septimius Severus (193 AC). Unesco World Culture Heritage Site. You will visit the various temples and bath facililities, the forum, the market, the port, and the museum and Villa Selene. Late afternoon drive back to Tripoli and time to explore the network of narrow streets and lanes in the old city (medina) with its architecture of various epochs, Gurgi Mosque and Marcus Aurelius Arch. Dinner in restaurant or hotel.
Day 10
You have a day in Tripoli and Sabratha. In the morning visit the National Museum in the old castle at the green square. Then short drive to Sabratha for a guided tour . Later afternoon back to Tripoli which with its charisma will fascinate you and leave a wonderful impression. Farewell dinner in an atmospheric restaurant. Hotel.
Day 11
Transfer to airport. Fly home.
