The programme combines the best historical sites with a visit to the pearl of the oasis Ghadames, the Roman Cydamus. So many different cultures, and so beautiful landscapes to see. The tour starts in the capital Tripoli with its oriental atmosphere and wonderful charisma. Then there are journeys to the ancient Roman towns Sabratha and Leptis Magna. An one hours flight brings you to Benghazi and to the magnificent Greek and Roman sites of Cyrene, Apollonia, Tolmeita, Tocra and Qasr al Libya. By coach you head to Ghadames, on the way visiting ruined sites, old granaries and antique Berber underground houses. And - a touch of adventure offers a short drive to the sand dunes of the Great Sahara. We use comfortable three to five star hotels and good quality restaurants serving delicious meals.
Day 1
Arrive in Tripoli. Welcome and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2
Morning visit the National Museum (Mitaf al-Jamahiriya) in the ancient castle at the green square with its rich collection of artefacts from all periods of Libyas long history. Stroll through the medina (old city) with its narrow streets and lanes to see old mosques (Gurgi, Karamanli), architecture of different epochs and the famous Marcus Aurelius Arch. Tripoli with its charisma will fascinate you. After lunch short drive to Sabratha to see one of the most beautiful archaeological sites of the world with its magnificent and well preserved three floor theatre. Unesco World Culture Heritage. Evening flight to Benghazi. Welcome by your guide and transfer to the hotel.
Day 3
Drive to Apollonia, the ancient port of Cyrene, impresses by the situation at the sea, the rock graves, the hot springs, Akropolis, west basilica and theatre. After lunch short drive to Cyrene (Shahat), Unesco World Cultural Heritage. Originally greek, Cyrene is considered as the most significant city of the antique Cyrenaica and has been founded 631 BC. by settlers from Santorini. In the extended site, among other things, you see the remains of the Roman/Byzantine period ( Byzantine churches, Agora, Gymnasium/Caesareum, Apollo-temple, Trajans thermes) and the great Doric temple of Zeus. Nice walk through the fabulous Nekropole with its grave chambers struck from the rock. Dinner and night in the hotel in Apollonia.
Day 4
Visit of the archaeological Tolmeita (Ptolemais) and Tocra. Of Tolmeita (Ptolemais), founded in the 4th century BC, witness two gate towers of the Tocra Gate, the remains of a stadium, the theatre and the stunning ruins of the Fortress Basilica.Visit Qasr al Libya with its beautiful Byzantine church ruins and the magnificent Theodosias floor mosaic. After lunch head to Tocra founded around 510 BC, one of the first settlement places of the Greeks, who followed the Delphi Orakel to the Northern African coast. Points of interest: the remains of two early Christian churches, a Byzantine bath building, the castellet. The Turkish fortress accommodates the historic museum. Drive to Benghazi and evening flight to Tripoli. Dinner in restaurant or hotel.

Sabratha - Theatre
Day 5
Full day visit of the largest archaeological site of Northern Africa. Leptis Magna, today called Lebdha, place of birth of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus, impresses by the Hadrianic baths, Nymphaeum, the great colonnaded street, the forum, basilica, the monumental arches, market, port and the superb preserved and detailed architecture. Unesco World Cultural Heritage! After lunch time to visit the historic museum. Transfer to Zliten. Dinner in the hotel.
Day 6
Continue sightseeing to Leptis Magna. Visit the Amphitheatre and Circus. Then around 14 kms west of Al Khoms to see the gracious Villa Sileen. It gives an excellent glimpse into the ancient Roman luxury lifestyle. After lunch break time for a walk on the beach before you head south to Gharyan. Dinner in the hotel.
Day 7
Visit to historical Berber underground houses and a pottery for which Gharyan is famous before you head on the plateau of Jebel Nafusah to Yfren, Qasr al Haj, Jadu and Kabaw, where amongst other points of interest old fortified granaries are visited. Partly wonderful view to the plains below.Arrive in Ghadames in the evening. Dinner in restaurant or hotel.
Day 8
One day in Ghadames, the pearl of the oasis at the Libyan-Tunisian border. Visit the museum and the old part of the town with their close, shady lanes, flowering gardens, a labyrinth of narrow, partly bent loambuidlings. Unesco World Cultural Heritage! In the afternoon transfer to the lake Ain al Dibbane and a romantic sunset in the dunes. Dinner in restaurant or hotel.
Day 9
A days journey ( 611 kms) to Tripoli. Lunch break in the Berber village Nalut on the top of the Jebel Nafusah. Sightseeing and visit the ancient Qasr (fortified granary). Arrive in Tripoli in the evening. Dinner in restaurant or hotel.
Day 10
Free day in Tripoli. Farewell dinner in an atmospheric restaurant. Hotel.
Day 11
Transfer to the airport. Fly back home.
